Zen and the Art of the Refrigerator

As the world spins fast, going within to settle the mind is a powerful antidote. It’s also a great way to expand your photographic output and to see the things that we miss in our ordinary routines.

Yesterday I set out to take some close-ups of the food we have in our home and on our balcony garden. I used the Moment Macro 10x lens. This amazing piece of glass allows you and your phone to focus on the smallest of details. But the surprise gift I got was an impromptu meditation session and inner stillness to my mind.

Basil, oranges and beef.

The goal was to show what’s possible with just natural light and a smartphone.

Become one with your subject. Take it slow. Let your mind be still.

When I look at the gallery of photos that I took I’m blown away by their depth. The textures and patterns that emerge allows us to see into the formation of life itself.

The ability to see this closely goes beyond what our eyes can see on their own.

Tips:

1 – Make sure you have a good ambient light source that will fill subject area evenly. If you have directional light you may have shadows to battle with.

2 – Experiment with distance and angles. The slightest movement in position will greatly alters what is in focus.

3 – Take extra care to have your subject and your camera as still as possible.
